A historic saltwater farm on the coast at Wells, now a national estuarine research reserve, with a barn that comfortably seats 130 to 150. It is an unusual option in a part of Maine dominated by hotels and resorts — a working conservation site rather than a wedding business, with trails, fields and a beach beyond.
Tents are allowed in designated areas and the grounds are open for open-air events, so the property scales past the barn if you need it. Two things to raise early: the site stays open to the public and admission applies to visitors, and there is plenty of parking, which in this stretch of the coast in August is not a small thing. Ask directly about alcohol — the reserve has a policy and it is worth having in writing.
