A barn on twelve lakefront acres in Winthrop, twenty minutes from Augusta and the largest published capacity in the Kennebec Valley. The barn itself is a 5,000 square foot open space and the venue states it can take weddings of 200 or more.
It is the most all-inclusive venue in the region, and unusually clear about its rules. Bar service is included: bartenders and three fully stocked bars with beer, wine, liquor, mixers, ice and drinkware. That comes with a hard rule — **BYO alcohol is prohibited**, and the venue points at state law rather than house preference. A licensed caterer is required for both the rehearsal party and the reception, and pot-luck or do-it-yourself meals are not allowed.
The package covers a great deal: 200 cross-back chairs, 20 farmhouse tables seating eight to ten each, restrooms, indoor and outdoor bars, dessert tables, draperies and chandeliers. There are several ceremony spots — a ceremony arbor, a meadow arbor, a rustic sunset arbor and a bridge crossing — plus separate bridal and groom suites. In poor weather they have arranged tents over the arbors and bandstand for couples before.
One thing to budget for: caterers normally lease commercial kitchen appliances from a rental agency, so the barn is not a fully equipped catering kitchen.
